We were all taught about the majestic and fashionable creatures at school but what about the slightly peculiar, lesser known ones?

If you ever got bored of reading about humpback whales and wondered if the seas could hold glowing fish or hippopotamus-like creatures then wonder no more because such creatures do exist, just don't expect them to appear in your geography or biology textbooks.

All the creatures that we have profiled below are seriously weird and sadly, in some cases, endangered too.

So for something you won't have seen in school, here’s a look at some of the strangest examples of nature’s wonderful variety - in all their glowing, hairy and scary glory.
