Freedom Food for resolution

Meat-loving eco-enthusiasts will be glad to know that the Co-operative has made some resolutions of its own - and they include looking after animal welfare.
The chain has pledged to have its own-brand premium Truly Irresistible pork, bacon and sausage ranges made using Freedom Food-accredited outdoor-reared Hampshire-bred pork from January 5.
The Truly Irresistible ranges will come from animals reared on farms approved under the Freedom Food scheme, which assesses conditions for farm animals in accordance with welfare standards devised and monitored by the RSPCA.
The move to improve welfare standards for pork follows The Co-operative's conversion of its entire standard range of own-brand fresh chicken to higher welfare and the introduction of a responsible fish-sourcing policy earlier this year.
"We are committed to introducing higher-welfare standards for pork as part of our Food Ethical Policy," says spokeswoman Lynne Forbes.
"As well as providing a better quality of life for the pigs, the outdoor reared Hampshire breed pork is mouthwatering and delicious!"
Look out for the Freedom Food Truly Irresistible pork, bacon and sausage ranges from January 5 - and enjoy!
