Six more steps for a green Christmas
So you've switched your fairy lights to LED ones and have decked out the kids in jumpers instead of turning up the heat?
Well, even the most eco-saintly of us can slip up over Christmas, so in tune with E.ON's initial six easy steps to a green Christmas, here are six more to keep you in check!
1. Save yourself time and have a steady supply of treats to offer surprise visitors over Christmas - maximise space in your over by cooking extra to be stored or frozen.
2. Don't delay your Christmas culinary creations: many modern ovens, especially fan ovens, need little or no preheating.
3. Rather than washing up as you go along, wait until you have a full load in the dishwasher and use a low-energy programme to help keep costs down.
4. Up the fun factor as a family by doing things together, be it watching TV in the same room, playing computer games, or - even more eco-friendly - indulging in some board games.
5. Make sure to turn off any TVs or appliances when not in use, as keeping them in standby mode still uses up to 70% of their energy.
6. Give yourself a New Year's resolution to run an energy-friendly household. An energy-saving monitor can help you watch your carbon consumption [www.eonshop.co.uk].
