Using London 2012 as inspiration, EDF Energy is launching Green Britain Day on 10th July. Together with the Eden Project and schools across the nation, people are being asked to ‘do something green for the team’ on Green Britain Day, creating a wave of tangible action in the UK. A yearly event, Green Britain Day is designed to be a focal point for people to take action towards a greener lifestyle and inspire the nation to work together and become more eco-friendly in time for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
As an energy company, EDF Energy has already done a lot to make lower carbon emissions a reality. For example, over the last year the energy provider has delivered an 8% reduction in CO 2 from energy use and a 5% reduction from its use of transport. But as Vincent de Rivaz, CEO of EDF Energy, said: “We also need to help people reduce their own carbon footprint and believe that collective action is the only way this can have a long-lasting impact.”
On Green Britain Day, people will be invited to join Team Green Britain, an online community comprising of a number of teams aimed at harnessing the power of collective action.
Green Britain Day will also see a wave of activity across the country. Hundreds of schools are set to hold events and inspire their local community – some may even receive a visit from one of our Olympic heroes and ambassadors for the scheme, including cyclist and Olympic gold medallist Victoria Pendleton.
